Master Ball

Description

Oh crap, I should've posted this a long time ago.

You see, after I posted my five other customized pokeballs (Ultra ball, Heal Ball, Green Pokeball, Gurren Lagan Ball, 1 UP Ball) I kept getting requests from people to do a Master Ball and at least one request to do an open pokeball. After doing the Gurren Lagan Ball I realized that I could make pokeballs based on anime, movies, or anything I want so the idea doing a pokeball from the games didn't interest me any more. And considering the limited number of balls I have to customize, it seems like a waste unless it was for a paid commission. Further more, the toy pokeballs that I'm using to customize are already master balls which makes turning them into master balls redundant. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone and make an open Master Ball. But then….

The problem was that I couldn't decide whether I should paint the interior details of the ball or just paint it grey and be done with it. Painting the detail on a concave surface would defiantly be difficult and for all I know no one else even remembers what the inside of a pokeball is supposed to look like but I couldn't see the point making an open pokeball otherwise. I decided to challenge myself and paint the insides but I couldn't decide on how to paint the insides. How was I supposed to draw the straight edges on something that was concave? How was I going to do the little mirrors? Should I try tinfoil?

Anyway, I agonized over it for a needlessly long time, worked on it on an off, did the insides free hand, retouched it, retouched it again, varnished the outside twice which made it oddly shiny and static clingy, and then… forgot to post it. I don't remember why exactly. I might have been too busy or just waiting for the perfect weather conditions to take the picture. (Maybe I just subconsciously dislike it for all the trouble it took to make.)

In any case, I owe the two individuals I promised this ball to a huge apology. Not only did I take for-needlessly-ever to make and post this ball I even begged them for points in exchange. GAWD I'm a turd! I promise to never beg anyone for points for any reason ever again.

I'm still open to Commissions if you're curious. If you want me to make you an open ball with interior detail it should be easier now that I have some idea of how to make it. Interestingly, I found out that acrylic paint provides enough friction to prevent the two pieces of the toy master ball from popping apart. I don't know if it will hold together for an entire day while strapped to someone's belt but it's very feasible.

I'd don't do pokeball requests unless it's something really clever, like something inspired by an anime, movie, game, pun etc. I only have a certain amount of toys I can customize and I don't want to waste them on balls that already exist in the games unless it's for a commission.

I have a couple of other ball I've been working on. You can see them now on my Twitter. Twitter.com/cattype

Did I forget to paint the M on the front? CUUUUUUURSES!!!
